BEACH STREETS

Role: Coordinator

Beach Streets is Long Beach’s version of an Open Streets event (similar to CicLAvia), in which at least 4 miles of a major street (or streets) in Long Beach are shut down to all motored traffic, and participants are encouraged to ride their bike, walk, skateboard, roller skate, etc. freely in the streets. This event not only promotes physical and mental well-being, but also provides a boost to local businesses along the route, many stating that their best day of the year business wise was when Beach Streets happened on their street. In 2017, it won the City of Long Beach Civic Innovation Livability Award and LA Weekly's Best Open Streets Event.

Assisting the head coordinator of this 30,000 person event, I:

  • Booked and coordinated all food trucks for the event

  • Activated 3 festival hubs along the route with games, entertainment, and music

  • Worked with public works officers, LBFD, and LBPD to close the streets and create a safe environment for all guests

  • Promoted the event via social media to a following of 10,000+ on Facebook and Instagram, working with digital ad taxis and sponsored content boosting to analyze best outreach strategy

  • Monitored the event day of, assisting where need be
